Teaching Artist Job Opportunity (Ongoing)

Arts on a Roll is a program of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Arts on a Roll is a mobile, on-demand arts service that can be booked for events and recurring workshops.  

Examples of events and programs include festivals, community days, family gatherings, church events, birthday parties, after school programs, etc. The goal of this program is to provide engaging and affordable arts services to the local community. 

Arts on a Roll is seeking artist educators in theater, performance, digital media (videographers, photographers, computer animators, audio technicians, etc.) dancers/choreographers, musicians/vocalists, visual artists (painters, sculptors, photographers, etc.), and creative writers/poets.

Arts on a Roll is in immediate need of visual artists and musicians/vocalists, teaching artists who are available on weekdays, and teaching artists who have experience working with people with disabilities.

  • Has least 1 year of teaching experience in your artistic field
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of the elements, processes, skills, and forms of their field and is able to express that knowledge clearly to a diverse audience, from young children to older adults
  • The ability to facilitate large group activities while maintaining composure and providing the energy needed to draw in and engage an audience of participants
  • A valid driver’s license and the willingness to drive to various destinations in Prince George’s County and the surrounding DC Region

  • Arts on a Roll teaching artists are part-time employees with flexible hours that are scheduled based on the need of the program. Hours can vary between approximately 1 hour in a month and 8 hours in a week.  Working with Arts on a Roll is a wonderful opportunity to provide affordable arts services to local communities during the times that best fit one’s schedule.
  • The average day will begin at our office in Greenbelt, MD. Teaching artists will take our defensive driving course and drive the Arts on a Roll van to and from events.
  • Teaching artists are not required to provide or pay for their own materials.
  • Arts on a Roll can accommodate a variety of schedules. While having available time during standard business hours can open our teaching artists up to more scheduling opportunities, we also work with people who have full-time jobs.
  • Applicants will need to pass a fingerprint background check initiated by our office during the application process.
  • The hourly rate we offer is commensurate with experience, between $15-$22/hour.

Audition for the 33rd Annual Choreographers Showcase

Dance Theater at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center

Residents of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, 18 years of age and older, may apply to audition new dance works before adjudicators. Six finalists will be selected to receive an honorarium of $800 and present their work in concert. There is no fee to audition.

  • Auditions will be held December 5-6, 2015 from 10 am-6 pm

Artist Call: "Maryland State of Mind": The Annual Maryland House of Delegates Exhibition

One of the original thirteen colonies, the state of Maryland offers a myriad of unique experiences. From mountains to waterways, trails to aviation fields, and historic sites to contemporary technology buildings, the state of Maryland has something to pique your interest. We are commemorating all that the great state of Maryland has to offer in the exhibition Maryland State of Mind.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division is calling for artists to submit two-dimensional works of art that best represents the state of Maryland. The exhibition will be held at the Maryland House of Delegates for the 2016 Prince George’s County Exhibition January-April 2016.
This call is open to all individuals 18 years of age or older that live, work and/or have their studio in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Artist teams are eligible to apply, including teams of artists from varying disciplines. Artists may submit a maximum of 3 artworks for consideration. All works must be original (no reproductions).
Entry Requirements
Each applicant must submit an application and electronic images for consideration by the jury. The images must be fully representative of the work you plan to submit for consideration.
  • A CD/DVD containing images and/ or segments of audio/video, each no longer than five minutes in duration.
  • Minimum image resolution should be 300 dpi and 1400-2000 pixels on the longer dimension.
  • A bio, artist statement with contact information and a list of the works submitted with titles, media, and dimensions.
Acceptance into the exhibition authorizes the M-NCPPC, to photograph and reproduce in any media the loans for archival, educational, and publicity purposes. Unless otherwise instructed in writing, the M-NCPPC will grant credit to the Artist as specified on the loan agreement in any labels or publications.
The M-NCPPC will ensure all accepted artwork for the duration of the exhibition. The insurance rider will protect against all risks of physical loss or damage from any external cause while on location during the period of the loan. All submitted work must be listed for sale. If your artwork is sold during the period of this loan, the M-NCPPC will collect a twenty-five percent (25%) commission fee.

Summer Job Opportunity: Auditions for Summer Teen Actors

Teens ages 16 and older who love to act, sing, and dance are invited to audition for the Teen Performance Ensemble or the Prince George’s Children’s Theater. Those selected will be employed to perform in a one-act live musical theater productions for children enrolled in M-NCPPC Summer Playgrounds and camps in June and July 2016.
