Artists interested in exhibiting in the Main Gallery or curators who want to propose an exhibition should send a one page proposal, résumé(s), and a CD of no fewer than 20 images to:

Jurying for Studio Space at Montpelier Arts Center

Join a thriving community of professional artists in the Montpelier Resident Artist Program! These artists work in a diverse variety of media and styles, maintain studio hours for the public to visit, and participate in community events.

Artists are selected by a jury panel and exhibit their work in the Montpelier Arts Center’s Resident Artist Gallery on a rotating basis.  

To be eligible, artists must be at least 18 years old and reside in Maryland. Residents of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties will take precedence over those residing in other jurisdictions. 

Application Requirements:
  • Completed application form 
  • CD containing digital JPEG images of 10-20 pieces that exemplify your body of work (include titles, dates, dimensions of art pieces). Images a minimum of 300 dpi.
  • Current resume, artist statement, and biography for each artist who applies
  • Letter of intent stating reasons for applying, goals during residency, how studio space will be used, and any special projects you would propose with Montpelier Arts Center
  • Three professional references (include their relation to you and appropriate contact information)

Artists who want their submissions returned must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with their application. Montpelier Arts Center will not be responsible for retaining entries without return packaging beyond the date of the jury process. 

Classical Recital Competition for September 2014-August 2015

Deadline: Entries must be postmarked by May 5, 2014.

Classical musicians are now being sought for the 2014-2015 Montpelier Arts Center Recital Competition!  Winners will be featured in an recital for the September 2014-June 2015 season. This year’s juror is Stefan Scaggiari. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Mr. Scaggiari is an accomplished performer, arranger, and composer with deep roots in classical tradition.
Application Requirements:
  • Ten-minute CD featuring material, which best identifies your repertoire and technique 
  • Artist biography 
  • Headshot (at least 8”x10” and 300 dpi); must be appropriate for print 
  • Current resume for each participating musician

Once recordings are submitted, they will become the property of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Division of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. If you would prefer to have your recording returned after the judging, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope with your application.

Musicians must be 18 & older to be considered. There are no geographical restrictions, but winners are responsible for their own transportation.

Each winner will receive a $400 honorarium. Accompanists will receive a $200 honorarium.

Library Gallery Exhibition Competition for September 2014-August 2015

Deadline: Postmarked by May 5, 2014 

Montpelier Arts Center is holding a competition for exhibitions that will be held in the Library Gallery. To be eligible, artists must reside in Maryland. The judge may elect to exhibit artists who apply for solo shows or artists who apply as groups.

An honorarium of $300 will be presented for each exhibition to the artist(s) exhibiting (i.e. groups would share the $300 honorarium.) The Montpelier Arts Center staff will handle all promotion and installation, as well as the reception.

The juror, John Paradiso, is a Facility Manager of the Gateway Center at the Prince George's Gateway Arts District. Please note, the Arts Center retains a 25% commission on sales of works sold during the competition. 

Application Requirements:
  • Artist statement and biography
  • Current one-page résumé of all artists to exhibit
  • CD containing at least 10 digital images that best exemplify your portfolio/proposal. Images must be in JPEG format at a minimum 300 dpi
  • A proposal of no more than one typed written page, double-spaced. Please specify the preferred month for your show, and include second and third choices
  • Mail your entries to:
