Artist Resources Artists or musicians interested in receiving advance notice about exhibitions or competitions in the mail should send an email to montpelier.arts@pgparks.com with “artist” or “musician” in the subject line and your name, address and phone number in the body of the email. As they become available, applications will be downloadable as PDFs from this site. The Arts and Cultural Heritage Division also publishes monthly Arts Opportunities. Download the current The Main GalleryArtists interested in exhibiting in the Main Gallery or curators who want to propose an exhibition should send a one page proposal, resume(s), and a CD of no fewer than 20 images to Main Gallery, Montpelier Arts Center, 9652 Muirkirk Road, Laurel, MD 20708. These materials will be maintained on file at Montpelier unless return postage is included.Jurying for Studio Space at Montpelier Arts CenterNext Jury will be May 16, 2013. Artists who wish to rent space at Montpelier are selected by jury. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2013. Artists bring works to the arts center and remove them May 17. Selected artists will be placed on a waiting list if there are no current studio openings. Montpelier Arts Center is located on the beautiful grounds of the Montpelier Mansion in Laurel, Maryland. Studios at Montpelier vary in size and the large printmaking studio is a shared space. Rental rates are $8/square foot per year for residents of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties and $9.60/square foot per year for all others. Resident artists at Montpelier are also eligible for solo exhibitions in the Resident Artist Gallery on a rotating basis, and they have access to the studios seven days a week. Interested artists are encouraged to visit the center. Classical Recital Competition Deadline: Postmarked by April 30, 2013 Classical musicians are now being sought for the 2013-2014 Montpelier Arts Center Recital Competition. Winners will be presented in recital for the September 2013-June 2014 season. Submissions should include a completed application form with a biography, an 8”x10” photograph or JPED, ten-minute CD featuring material which best identifies your repertoire and technique, and a one-page resume. Once recordings are submitted, they will become the property of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Division of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. If you would prefer to have your recording returned after the judging, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope with your application. Musicians must be 18 or older to be considered. There are no geographical restrictions but winners are responsible for their own transportation. Each winner will receive a $400 honorarium. Accompanists will receive a $200 honorarium. Groups of three may receive up to $800. Deadline: Postmarked by April 29, 2013 Montpelier Arts Center announces a competition for exhibitions to be held in the Library Gallery. To be eligible, artists must reside in Maryland. The judge may elect to exhibit artists who apply for solo shows or artists who apply as groups. An honorarium of $300 will be presented for each exhibition to the artist(s) exhibiting (i.e. groups share the $300 honorarium.) The Montpelier Arts Center staff will handle all promotion and installation, as well as the reception. The juror is Amy Cavanaugh Royce, Executive Director, Maryland Art Place.
