The Main Gallery

Artists interested in exhibiting in the Main Gallery or curators who want to propose an exhibition should email with a one-page proposal, résumé(s), and no fewer than 20 images. Or these items can be mailed to:

Jurying for Studio Space at Montpelier Arts Center

Deadline: Monday, April 10, 2017, at 11:59 pm 

Join a thriving community of professional artists in the Montpelier Resident Artist Program! These artists work in a diverse variety of media and styles, maintain studio hours for the public to visit, and participate in community events.

Artists are selected by a jury panel and exhibit their work in the Montpelier Arts Center’s Resident Artist Gallery on a rotating basis.  

To be eligible, artists must be at least 18 years old and reside in Maryland. Residents of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties will take precedence over those residing in other jurisdictions. 

Application Requirements:
  • All entries must be submitted online at
  • Current resume, artist statement, and biography for each artist who applies
  • Letter of intent stating reasons for applying, what you hope to accomplish through/during your residency, how studio space will be used, and any special projects you propose with Montpelier Arts Center
  • A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 digital images that best exemplify your portfolio/proposal, with the title, dates, and dimensions of each work. Images must be a minimum of 300 dpi.
  • 3 professional references (include their relation to you and appropriate contact information).

Each selected artist will receive a lease for rental space at Montpelier Arts Center. Montpelier resident artists may hold solo exhibitions in the Resident Artist Gallery on a rotating basis.

Classical Recital Competition for 2017-2018

Deadline: Monday, April 10, 2017, 11:59 pm 

Classical musicians are now being sought for the Montpelier Arts Center Recital Competition!  Winners will be featured in a recital in the Main Gallery during the 2017-2018 season.

Musicians must be 18 & older to be considered. There are no geographical restrictions, but winners are responsible for their own transportation.

Application Requirements:
  • All entries must be submitted online at
  • Ten-minute selection of music that best identifies your repertoire and technique 
  • Musician(s) biography 
  • Headshot(s) that is appropriate for print (at least 8”x10” and 300 dpi)
  • Current one-page resume with contact information for each participating musician

Each artist/group will receive a $400 honorarium. Accompanists will receive a $200 honorarium.

Library Gallery Exhibition Competition for September 2017 - August 2018

Deadline: Monday, April 10, 2017, 11:59 pm 

Montpelier Arts Center is holding a competition for exhibitions that will be held in the Library Gallery September 2017-August 2018. To be eligible, artists must be 18 years & older and reside in Maryland. Previous winners from 2012 to the present are ineligible. The juror may elect to exhibit artists who apply for solo shows or artists who apply as groups.

An honorarium of $300 will be presented for each exhibition to the artist(s) exhibiting (i.e. groups would share the $300 honorarium.) The Montpelier Arts Center staff will handle all promotion and installation, as well as the reception. Please note, the Arts Center retains a 25% commission on sales of works sold during the exhibition. 

Application Requirements:

  • Artist/Artist Group statement
  • Current résumé of all artists to exhibit
  • A proposal of no more than 500 words
  • Preferred month for your show, and include second and third choices
  • A minimum of ten (10) and a maximum of fifteen (15) digital images that best exemplify your portfolio/proposal. Images must be in JPEG format at a minimum 300 dpi.
