Celebrate National Pie Day with Darnall’s Chance House Museum! Join us as Debbie Waugh of Green Spring Garden tells us about the history of pie from its medieval origins to today. Enjoy a pie and coffee reception following the presentation. Reservation Deadline: 01/24/2019

This winter, history is a little sweeter at Darnall’s Chance Museum! Take a guided tour with our costumed interpreters of our 18th century house and then learn some interesting facts about why chocolate was so popular in Colonial America. Visitors will get to taste hot chocolate and chocolate tea made from authentic 1750s recipes. Fee: $10/person and includes house tour, a cup of hot chocolate and chocolate tea as well as other delectable sweets. Advance registration required. Tours begin at 1 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM. Surratt House Museum invites you to honor Women’s History Month during a presentation on Antonia Ford Willard. Ford was born into a Confederate household in Fairfax Courthouse, Virginia. Beautiful and smart, she was described by Confederate general Eppa Hunton as, "much admired by the Yankee officers and had so much influence over at least one of them, that she obtained their military secrets." Ford gained notoriety in 1863 for her suspected involvement in a Confederate raid on her hometown. Subsequent imprisonment fostered a romance with Union Major Joseph C. Willard, leading to a “mixed-marriage” of Confederate and Union sympathies. Michelle Krowl of the Library of Congress will examine this unique relationship and how living and loving on both sides of the sectional divide affected her, her family, and her communities. This program is FREE. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is first come, first served.
