SUMMARY:The African Odyssey Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is only open Thursdays-Sundays each week. It is closed on Mondays-Wednesdays\n\n\n\nMontpelier is honored to present\, in collaboration with the Braxton Institute\, Dr. Joanne Braxton’s moving photography of her odyssey to Ghana\, Ivory Coast\, and Senegal. The exhibit explores an unexpected\, very personal story and an encounter with ancestral memory. As a descendant of African people enslaved at Montpelier\, she hopes that you will see and feel some of what she saw and felt as she journeyed to discover the meaning of the words of her grandmother\, Emma Harrison\, “My father always said that we have a home over there.” Through her photography\, she honors her enslaved great-grandfather\, William Harrison\, and “diasporic Africans\, unwilling immigrants to the Chesapeake in the 17th and 18th centuries.” \n\n\n\nThis exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Braxton Institute for Sustainability\, Resiliency and Joy.

SUMMARY:Michele Banks: Forces of Nature
DESCRIPTION:Forces of Nature presents recent works by Washington\, D.C.-based artist Michele Banks\, whose ink and watercolor paintings on yupo explore the invisible forces that shape our world—from microscopic atomic motion to the vast curvature of space. Drawing inspiration from physics and biology\, Banks merges scientific imagery with a fluid\, organic aesthetic\, balancing precision with spontaneity. Through the interplay of charts\, graphs\, and expressive washes of ink\, her work reflects on memory\, connection\, and what it means to exist within both natural and social systems. By bridging the rigor of science with the intuition of art\, Banks brings warmth and accessibility to complex\, abstract ideas.

SUMMARY:Young Sam Yoon
DESCRIPTION:Young Sam Yoon’s richly atmospheric oil paintings invite viewers into emotional landscapes shaped by memory\, nature\, and time. Through layered paint and expressive\, gestural brushwork\, forms blur and dissolve into fields of texture and color\, creating a sense of motion and quiet intensity. Rather than depicting specific locations\, these works evoke emotional landscapes—impressions shaped by memory\, sensation\, and the feeling of being immersed in place.

SUMMARY:Ceej Maples: Good Luck with That
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Art Enables\, Brentwood Arts Exchange is proud to present the solo exhibition Good Luck with That by artist Ceej Maples. Weaving humor\, pain\, and irony into every work\, Maples uses his art as both a profound form of self-expression and a vital tool for navigating physical and mental challenges. \n\n\n\nGood Luck with That explores the spectrum of the human experience\, confronting hardships with wit and imagination. The title piece captures this sentiment perfectly\, a blend of earnestness and sarcasm that acknowledges life’s difficulties while proving that creativity makes the journey more bearable. Maples’ inventive and playful works invite viewers to find hope in difficult moments\, serving as a powerful celebration of resilience and the healing power of art.

SUMMARY:Young Sam Yoon - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Young Sam Yoon’s richly atmospheric oil paintings invite viewers into emotional landscapes shaped by memory\, nature\, and time. Through layered paint and expressive\, gestural brushwork\, forms blur and dissolve into fields of texture and color\, creating a sense of motion and quiet intensity. Rather than depicting specific locations\, these works evoke emotional landscapes—impressions shaped by memory\, sensation\, and the feeling of being immersed in place.

SUMMARY:Sarah Presley: Silver Spark\, Lucky Star
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Presley creates a conversation between grief and the idea of home in Silver Spark\, Lucky Star. This collection features motifs of residential architecture reminiscent of the small town Presley grew up in\, and one she often returns to in her work. Through bright colors\, family photographs and vintage papers\, Presley evokes memories of home. The etchings and collages\, however\, frequently lack subjects\, leaving them specific to no one and emphasizing the empty\, unobtainable feeling of nostalgia.
