Opened in 2025, the new Marlow Heights Community Center strives to carry on the legacy established by the former buildings on this site, providing fresh amenities and making way for a new generation of enjoyment and memory-making. The local community has a rich history dating back to its inception in the early 20th century, with a period of incredible growth and expansion during the post-war era and continued evolution of its neighborhood character up until today – and beyond.
Those who have lived in the surrounding areas recall coming to the former Community Center for public gatherings, social events, civic association meetings, and recreation. They have shared unforgettable stories as well as a lasting sense of companionship and belonging. The Marlow Heights Community Center, past and present, serves as a centerpiece of the community.
Mary Ann Mears
Dance with Me
2025
Sculpture, painted aluminum: 14.5 feet high, 10 feet wide, 11 feet deep, mounted on 10 foot x 10 foot granite base.
Located at the heart of the newly renovated Marlow Heights Community Center, Dance with Me is a celebration of movement, connection, and community. Created by Baltimore artist Mary Ann Mears, the vibrant sculpture draws inspiration from the natural grace of trees and the joyful rhythm of human interaction.
Its sweeping, colorful forms invite you to explore from every angle — each step offering a new perspective. Look closely, and you’ll discover a community poem inscribed in the base, written by local voices and woven into the artwork itself.
More than a sculpture, Dance with Me is a living tribute to the spirit, resilience, and unity of Marlow Heights, welcoming all to reflect, gather, and move together.

Empact Art
Seat of Joy
2025
Seat, Glass Mosaic: 51.12 square feet
Colorful, vibrant, and full of life, Seat of Joy is more than a mosaic bench — it’s a celebration of the Marlow Heights community. Created by Baltimore-based artist team Empact Art, LLC, this interactive artwork reflects the Department of Parks and Recreation’s motto: Live More, Play More.
The bench features uplifting words and phrases — personal mantras, reflections, and encouragements — gathered from local residents. Each message, set in mosaic, honors the many voices and languages that make up the Marlow Heights community.
Students and community members helped bring this bench to life through hands-on workshops, learning the mosaic making process while leaving their own mark on the piece.
The result is a joyful, welcoming space for rest, connection, and inspiration — a place where art and community meet.
