    Riverdale, MD – The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County announces the re-opening of all its facilities on Monday, January 31. This includes art, nature, fitness and community centers, indoor swimming pools, and museums.

    “Our operating status factors in the County Department of Health, the status of the pandemic-related positivity and case rates within the County, and the health and availability of our staff to open and operate facilities safely,” says Bill Tyler, Director of the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation. “We will continuously monitor and review our operating level and status to prioritize the health and safety of all of our employees and the community.”

    The Department will continue to concentrate on preventative measures as indicated by public health agencies. Face coverings are required for all indoor venues.  Several facilities will serve as COVID Vaccine Clinics, provide testing services, and distribute free COVID test kits.

    M-NCPPC, Departamento de Parques y Recreación, Condado de Prince George’s Anuncia La Reapertura Limitada de las Instalaciones

    Riverdale, Md – El Departamento de Parques y Recreación, Condado de Prince George’s que forma parte de La Comisión de Parques y Planificación de Maryland – Área de la Capital Nacional (M-NCPPC por sus siglas in inglés) anunció hoy que la mayoría de las instalaciones, las operaciones de mantenimiento de los parques y los eventos y programas públicos permanecerán cerrados hasta el 31 de enero de 2022. El 18 de enero se reabrirán los programas de preescolar, Before Care, After Care y Recreación Terapéutica. Todos los parques y senderos permanecerán abiertos. Se respetarán los alquileres previamente programados en determinados lugares.  El Departamento volverá a evaluar el estado antes de la reapertura.

    Los funcionarios del Departamento, el personal, los residentes, los socios y los proveedores fueron informados de la decisión hoy mismo. A medida que la prevalencia de COVID-19 se vuelve más significativa en el Condado, el Departamento está tomando estas medidas en un esfuerzo por frenar la propagación de COVID-19.

    “Este esfuerzo proactivo es nuestra mayor oportunidad para aumentar la salud pública de los residentes del condado de Prince George,” confirma Bill Tyler, Director de M-NCPPC, Departamento de Parques y Recreación. “Nuestras instalaciones, programas y eventos proporcionan los medios para la interacción social de la comunidad y estamos tomando estas medidas por abundancia de precaución.”

    M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County Announces 

    Limited Reopening of Facilities 

    Riverdale, MD – The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County announced today that most facilities, park maintenance operations and public events and programs will remain closed through January 31, 2022. Reopening on January 18 will be pre-registered pre-school, Before Care, After Care, and Therapeutic Recreation Programs. All parks and trails will remain open. Previously scheduled rentals at select venues will be honored. The Department will reassess the status prior to reopening.

    Department officials, staff, residents, partners, and vendors were informed of the decision earlier today. As COVID-19 prevalence becomes more significant in the County, the Department is taking these steps in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

    “This proactive effort is our greatest opportunity to increase public health for the residents of Prince George’s County,” confirms Bill Tyler, Director of the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation. “Our facilities, programs, and events provide the means for community social interaction and we are taking these steps out of an abundance of caution.”

    For programs and events either cancelled or modified due to the closure, refunds will be applied to the household account. Please contact your local community center for any questions. The Department will continue to concentrate on preventive measures as indicated by public health agencies. Outdoor areas will remain open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
