  • Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County Announces Events and Festivals for April

    RIVERDALE, Md. – Discover something new this spring with the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County! From outdoor adventures and family-friendly festivals to cultural celebrations and community engagement, there is something for everyone this April. Mark your calendars and join the Department for a month of exciting events.

    Community Days at Nature Sites

    Every Saturday in April | FREE

    Celebrate Earth Day all month long! The Department of Parks and Recreation will host Community Days every Saturday at six different nature sites throughout the county. Free activities included animal ambassador meet and greets, DIY workshops, arts and crafts, guided nature hikes, giveaways, and more!

    5k Glow Walk/Run for Autism | Saturday, April 5, 7:30 – 9 pm

    Watkins Regional Park

    Light up the night for a good cause. Wear your best glow gear and take part in this inclusive fun walk/run to help raise awareness and acceptance for Autism. Registration includes a t-shirt, glow gear, post-race refreshments, and a contribution to the You Fit Scholarship Fund, which helps provide access to M-NCPPC sponsored summer day camps.

    Major Taylor Ride | Saturday, April 12, 10 am – 3 pm  

    Watkins Regional Park | FREE

    Celebrate the legacy of African American cycling world champion Marshall “Major” Taylor” with a day of cycling, community, and fun!Join bicycle enthusiasts from around the area as they take over Watkins Regional Park and enjoy a variety of activities, food trucks and club-hosted rides.

    Kinderfest | Saturday, April 26, 12 noon – 5 pm

    Watkins Regional Park | FREE

    A festival just for kids! Kinderfest returns to Watkins and is packed with live entertainment, games, train and carousel rides, hands-on nature activities, crafts, food vendors, and more. Bring the family for an unforgettable day of fun!

    The Ultimate HBCU Experience | Saturday, April 26, 10 am – 2 pm

    Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex | FREE

    Teens and pre-teens, step into the world of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at the Ultimate HBCU Experience! Enjoy a dynamic mix of guest speakers, Greek Life, and a homecoming show while learning more about the rich culture and legacy of HBCUs. Advanced registration is recommended.

    Montpelier Herb, Tea & The Arts Festival | Saturday, April 26, 10 am – 4 pm

    Montpelier House Museum | FREE

    Welcome spring and delight in the sights and sounds of nature, art, and history at this fun festival for the entire family. Visit with vendors on the grounds, relax to live music, attend gardening talks and workshops, tour the house museum, and visit the Arts Center.

  • M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County Announces Reopening of the Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center

    RIVERDALE, Md. M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is pleased to announce the reopening of the Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center following the completion of repairs. The newly restored Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center will reopen to the public on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at noon.

    The completed repairs addressed cracks that developed in the pools, ensuring a safer and more durable environment for swimmers of all ages. The delayed reopening was necessary to ensure that the facility meets the highest standards of safety and enjoyment for all visitors.

    “We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we worked to complete these necessary repairs,” said Adrienne Harris-Moore, Division Chief of the Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division. “The improvements will enhance both the safety and overall experience of our visitors, and we are excited to welcome everyone back.”

    To celebrate the reopening, Prince George’s County residents will enjoy free general admission and classes until Friday, May 2, 2025. Regular operating hours will resume on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Patrons are encouraged to make pool reservations and to register for classes in advance to secure their spot, as availability is based on capacity. Online reservations and class registration will be made available soon.
